I am not proud of my story, but I feel compelled to share it with you! My name is George Louris and I was once a fat and stressed out business professional in the field of IT for 25 years – I also happen to be a certified trainer and nutritionist – which just makes my story even sadder.

Every morning at 5AM I dreaded getting out of bed to face another miserable day, and my two hour commute didn’t help. I would typically spend those two hours wondering how I got to where I was today: constantly tired, overweight and having lost all of my confidence.

I would arrive at work by 8AM, grab breakfast at the coffee cart, eat breakfast while catching up on emails and scanning to see if there were any “fires” to be put out – and there ALWAYS were.

Lunch was just as bad. I’d always eat at my desk because I was constantly required to study to get my technical certifications or there was just way too much going on to even eat lunch. Have you ever felt like this?

I would typically leave work at 7:00pm for my dreaded two hour commute back home. So on most nights I would grab some fast food on the way home (pizza is my favorite), eat and go to sleep and the next day start the same miserable routine all over again. -Groundhog Day anyone?

So as you can see I had ZERO time to workout. To be honest, I was so tired all the time that I thought getting in shape was impossible.

There’s Gotta Be A Better Way to Do This

As I continued to be successful in my job and get promoted, my responsibilities drastically increased…but so did my blood pressure, cholesterol and waistline.

My job was high pressure. I was now an executive with all of the responsibilities that went with it. Going from a stressed out IT guy to an executive just meant more responsibilities, more pressure and more late nights worrying about the multi-million dollar business I was now responsible for. I spent more than a few nights taking my work home and falling asleep on the kitchen counter with my laptop. Not good.

Stress started building and I dreaded waking up in the morning because I was mentally and physically exhausted. I felt as if I could snap at any moment. That ever happen to you? You ever just open your eyes and say “Screw this, I just want to stay in bed today, I’m so fed up with everything.” It used to happen to me, almost daily.

Not to mention my fiancée at the time grew frustrated because I made no time for her (There was always something to do, right fellas?).

I didn’t have time for myself, or anyone else for that matter.

When the weekend rolled around all I could think about is how I was going to catch up on sleep and stay in bed all day and eat more pizza and Dorito’s. My two favorite foods in the world…mmmmmmm.

I literally LIVED for the weekends, just to sit in bed or plop my fat ass on the couch and eat…and eat…and eat and watch TV ALL… DAY… LONG. I’ll tell you, if Netflix existed back then, I probably would have been fired for not getting off the couch.

Even worse, I convinced myself that this wasn’t so bad. I was eating my favorite foods and spending the day “relaxing” in front of the TV.

I channeled all of my stress and unhappiness into eating and watching TV.

I would tell myself “You earned this, your job is stressful and you’re burnt out, the weekends are for relaxing and doing what makes you happy.”

Except, I wasn’t really happy.

I was miserable, but I just wouldn’t admit it to myself.

Here I was, someone who previously considered himself a hard core exercise fanatic, working out five or six times a week spending his weekends eating tons of greasy, fattening foods that were slowly killing me.

Oh, not to mention I stopped training my clients because I just didn’t have the time or energy to maintain a second job, no matter how passionate I was about it.

Long story short, I put on almost 50 pounds over two years because I spent most of my day sitting. I was sitting for almost four hours a day during my commute to go sit in an office for 10 to 12 hours a day and then sit on my couch all weekend long. Of course I worked so much that I  just didn’t have the time to work out either. To make it worse, I was constantly eating processed foods from the fast food chains.

The same George who practically spent every free minute at the gym when he was 18 suddenly was extremely overweight, lethargic and completely stressed out.

Chances are, you can relate.​

Before I started my white collar job, I had my exercise routine down like clockwork. I would get home every day before 5, eat dinner than hit the gym for two hours almost every single night. It was awesome!

But once I truly got into the workforce my routine (and my life) changed dramatically. I started finding all types of excuses for not going to the gym anymore:

If you could think of an excuse to not go to the gym & miss a workout, then you can bet I came up with it.

I was extremely frustrated.

I couldn’t understand how time passed so quickly & how I put on so much weight.

I have to admit, I’m extremely EMBARRASSED to show you these photos and share this story:

Here I am, a 212 pound chronically tired, overweight and frustrated white collar worker. Not only did I go from a lean 165 pounds to a fat, unhealthy 212 pounds, I went from a size 32 waist to a size 38 and my cholesterol and triglycerides were through the roof.

To be honest, I was also angry and disgusted at myself and depressed about how I looked and felt. I often wondered how I let myself get this way.

The weight gain seemed to slowly sneak up on me and when I got on that scale I was completely shocked that I hit the plus-200 mark.

This is when everything changed for me.

At that very moment I saw the “212” number and realized that I had gained almost 50 pounds, I had made up my mind to do whatever I needed to do to get into shape, lose the huge belly and get my energy (and life) back.

I began researching how I can get back into shape without spending hours in the gym or going on some crazy fad diet. As someone who was crunched for time (and as a personal trainer), I knew I didn’t have the time to dedicate and that fad diets simply are not a long term, sustainable solution.

My goal was to find a way to bring the “old George” back without having to join a gym -the drive was too long and the membership too expensive – and I simply did not have the time.
