Tranquille Spa in Aptos among salons under new ownership

APTOS -- Without thought the recession, stylist Ana Brantley took the fall, buying Tranquille Spa at the Rio del Mar shopping center.

"It's a honesty a possessions time to start a business when the economy is down," said Brantley, 31, of Aptos, who pursued cosmetology after graduating from Harbor Maximum School. "If it goes down, it's going to go up."

Everything fell into spot for Brantley, who was laid off last year from a job teaching at Shoreline Cosmetology Educational institution.

She took business classes and enrolled in the five-week Women Ventures Program for non-conventional occupations.

"It helped me gain my confidence," she said.

In August, she was called back to indoctrinate. Watching the industry, she saw opportunity.

She called charge broker Bob Norton. He found Tranquille owner Leslie Pennington-McComb was enthusiastic to sell while staying on as a stylist. The Aptos position was a good fit.

"There hasn't been as much of a dip in that area," said Brantley, who took edge of the Business Retention Program at the Small Company Development Center at Cabrillo College.
