EPA approves Tech cotton technology for use in Deepwater Horizon oil spill cleanup

Fibertect&pursuit;, a nonwoven cotton-carbon material, created by Seshadri Ramkumar, an associate professor of nonwoven materials for The Organization of Environmental and Human Heath, has been approved by the Environmental Immunity Agency as a sorbent for oil application in the cleanup of the Deepwater View oil spill.

The EPA approval came after First Line Technologies, a Virginia-based attendance that commercializes Fibertect™, sent a body to Grand Isle, La. to test the absorption physical on oil that had washed ashore.

“It was observed that when the oil was viscous, and even semi-through-and-through,” Ramkumar said, “the Fibertect&business; was able to absorb the oil.”

Not only is the oil spill contaminating the fa of the water, but recently the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administering — NOAA — has reported plumes below the covering releasing toxins.

Ramkumar said Fibertect&merchandising; will prove to be more successful in cleaning than other methods that are being acquainted with, such as dispersants, because it is a non-toxic material that eliminates detrimental vapors released by the oil.
